Wow it’s been awhile
Well I haven’t updated this blag in a long long time. I had a short stint with Livejournal and Blogger but really don’t have much to write about myself. Methinks it’s time to revamp the site for bigger and better things.
Billy Joel!
Billy Joel, February 10, 2007, T.D. Waterhouse Theater… Freakin Sweet!
R!
I made a pretty cool shirt for a pirate party I went to and decided to try to sell them on Cafe Press. Show your support for pirates, ninjas, FSMs (and me) by buying one.
Iraq For Sale
I just got finished watching Iraq For Sale and let me tell you, it is a hell of an eye opener. It focuses on the privatization of the war in Iraq and just how prevalent government contracts are to the current situation. Do check it out.

New Blog Look
Well I finally got tired of that old blog look. It was more of a hasty decision in that I wanted to puke everytime I looked at it. I switched to Thoughts 2.0 by Lisa Sabin-Wilson until I get around to creating one myself or integrate the blog fully into the main page.
I can’t believe I kept that ugly page for as long as I did. I’ll understand if you don’t want to be friends with me anymore.
New Tank Hood
Visit GalleryOver the last 2 months I’ve been slowly building a new hood for my saltware aquarium. This mainly started because the size of my hood at the time (a cheap-o Odyssea T5 hood) required odd-length T5 light bulbs that I was unable to find anywhere. Basically I was stuck buying only Odyssea bulbs and they didn’t offer much of a selection.
I’ve now added 2 actinic lights which really gives the tank a nice color improvement. Actinic lights are blue lights that enhance the color of the aquarium since blue penetrates deeper through water. It also improves the health of corals, invertebrates, and other organisms in the tank.
I still need to add 2 more computer fans and finish up the wiring, but I’m finally glad it’s done. Check out the photo gallery, but you have to see it in person to really see the difference that the actinic light makes.
iTunes 7 Skip Count
So everyone knows that iTunes 7 is out and it’s pretty nice so far. One thing I’m really liking about it is the Skip Count feature. I have the tendency to leave iTunes on shuffle and I’ve got a lot of music I don’t listen to so hopefully this will help me sort through my music that I routinely skip over.
After some testing, Sean and I discovered that it only counts a skip if you skip within the first 20 seconds of the song.
Adobe CS2, Quicktime 7.1, and Intel Macs
If you own an Intel Mac, be wary of installing Adobe CS2 if you have Quicktime 7.1 and the Security Update 2006-003 installed. There is an issue with the installation process that causes the OS to lock up and, after a forced restart, system stability issues.
Unfortunately, as of this writing, no Quicktime 7.1 uninstaller or other solution has been released.
There is some discussion on the Adobe forums:

and the Apple forums:

Update: Apple has released Quicktime 7.1.1 which solves the Adobe installer issue. Please update your system software.
NSA and Telcos
As you may have heard, the NSA now has a massive collection of our phone records, courtesy of the telecom companies. [USA Today] I find this quite disturbing and was curious to know whether Cingular (my wireless provider) was also involved in giving my phone records to the NSA, so I dropped them a little email:
Well today, I got my response back (many people I spoke to said to not even expect a response):
This concerns me. It’s obviously not a “No” which makes me think it’s a “Yes, but we won’t come out and say it.”
Has anyone else inquired to their phone companies whether or not their records have been “shared”?
Thoughts?
